How would a generator make the Valley more resilient?
In the event of a natural disaster; floods, fires, earthquake or a volcanic eruption, the valley may lose power leaving many people without lights, heat and functioning well pumps. The Van Zandt Community Hall could serve as a refuge from heat, cold, smoke and lack of water. We have the infrastructure now to provide those services as long as the power doesn’t fail. We have been informed that we should have a very significant generator to meet the needs of the community and that explains why the cost is so high!
The Hall also provides internet access and houses the KAVZ radio station (102.5 FM and streaming at kavz.org) which is the easternmost emergency broadcast station in Whatcom county.
Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated!
